Dear friend of The Washington Spectator,
We're coming down to the wire on our year-end campaign for support, but before our last request, we thought our readers would enjoy a sneak preview of some of the dynamic projects coming up in the new year.
In January we'll publish Lisa Graves' behind-the-scenes history of the right-wing takeover of the Supreme Court and the vote to overturn federal protection for abortion rights. No one knows more about the current Court and its roots than Lisa, the chair of our editorial board at the Spectator and the author of "Without Precedent," her new book on the genteel but lethal career of Chief Justice Roberts.
Staying on the Court beat, DeWayne Wickham, a former Dean of the Journalism School at Morgan State, will report on disturbing and previously unreported details on the compromised ethics of Clarence Thomas.
And Anne Nelson returns to our pages with a headlining investigation into the massive new public relations campaign by the government of Israel to counter faltering public opinion in the US.
We'll see in the coming year whether Trump's contempt for our laws and the corruption of his circle will continue unabated, or if the legislature reclaims its authority, the courts stiffen, the press becomes more independent, civil society finds its voice and, most importantly, the public rises to assert the most fundamental privilege of a democracy, the right to choose the direction of their country.
The Spectator aims to report and comment stride for stride with this pivotal year. To the hundreds of our readers who have already contributed generously to our year-end request for support, each of you has our profuse thanks. And if you are still considering a donation, I wanted to ask one last time for your help.
